Nicholas House executive director dies

Dennis Bowman, Executive Director of Nicholas House, died on Sunday, August 22, due to a sudden pulmonary embolism. He leaves behind his wife Rebecca and their two children, Chloe and Nicholas.

“Dennis was a larger-than-life figure who brought his remarkable passion, experience and energy to Nicholas House,” said Michael Jones, Board President for Nicholas House. “No words can adequately express our sadness at Dennis’s passing or our gratitude for the opportunity to have worked with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much. Services for Dennis are pending.”

“Details will be provided as soon as they become available. Effective immediately, I will temporarily assume core operating responsibilities with support by members of the Nicholas House Executive Committee, Board Members and Staff. Like Dennis, the Board will continue to set strategies that will maximize Nicholas House’s community impact,”

Since 2007, Dennis served as executive director for Nicholas House. He worked closely with the community, volunteers, staff and supporters to advance the impact of Nicholas House in creating new and brighter futures for homeless families and children and advance the Nicholas House mission of helping homeless families achieve self-sufficiency. In addition to leading Nicholas House, Dennis was a community leader on homeless issues, including serving on the City of Atlanta’s Strategic Planning Committee to Address Homelessness, the DeKalb County Continuum of Care Planning Committee and a large number of other policy committees that helped structure the metro-Atlanta area’s response and solutions to homelessness

Bowman’s 29-years of experience in not-for-profit management, marketing and communication as well as his for-profit experience, helped to expand the organizational reach and impact of Nicholas House. We will be planning a celebration of Dennis’s extraordinary contributions for Nicholas House staff and friends that will take place soon.
