Atlanta Department of Corrections hosts annual holiday food and toy drive
The City of Atlanta Department of Corrections (DOC) will host its annual holiday food and toy drive on Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Atlanta City Detention Center auditorium.
The annual DOC charitable event was founded by Retired Sgt. Ellis Williams more than 35 years ago.
Each family that is invited to attend the holiday food and toy drive will receive a box packed with donated goods,
including but not limited to meat, fresh produce, canned goods and other non-perishable food items.
Additionally, families who were adopted by DOC staff and participating partners will also receive toys, coats, clothes and other essential items while supplies last.
As in past years, the DOC collaborated with Grady Health System Social Services and the local Veterans Affairs (VA) office to identify local families and military veterans in need, and with area businesses and organizations to donate food and toys.
